ADJUST YOUR BODY

If you can, start adjusting your body clock the day you depart. Start by adjusting your meal times in line with your destination, but most importantly sleep according to your destination too. This way, when you land you can sleep at the right time.

GET A WORKOUT IN

Hitting the gym can help tire you out if you’re wide awake after a long flight. Get a good workout in, and it may help you fall flat on your bed at the right time.

SLEEPY TABLETS

We’re not advocating taking drugs to help you sleep, but if you’re really struggling on the flight then a couple of sleeping tablets can help you get some much needed shut eye. For tablet-free options, try lavender oil on your travel pillow or take a chamomile teabag with you.

TIME YOUR ARRIVAL

Try arriving in the daytime. Not only will you feel better, but there is little worse than arriving at 4am after a long flight. Choose more convenient flight times, even if they are a little more expensive.

DRINK CLEVER

Even on a normal day when you’re not travelling, too many caffeinaited or and sugary drinks can have a detrimental effect on the body. Try sticking to water as much as possible to give your body the best chance of re-hydrating itself after a flight.

Don’t worry; no plane spotter books required. Pick aircrafts which enhance air quality on board as this may help you arrive fresher. The Airbus A380, A350 and Boeing’s Dreamliner all have modern air technology to help your trip feel less tiring.

SET YOUR WATCH

This is a great tip. Simply change your watch/phone time to match the time at your destination. That way, you’ll be subconsciously aware of what time it is where you’re going hours ahead of your arrival.

SIT BY THE WINDOW

Sunlight is a good friend. Not only does it help fill up on Vitamin D, but the psychological effect of being in the sunlight has a positive effect on the body. Imagine sitting the middle of the centre row for 10 hours!

BE A PLANE GEEK
